A felted Suffolk sheep soap handmande in Yorkshire was a highly original gift from the brother. Wrapped in 100% wool, the lanolin soap bar is an all natural exfoliation tool.

Another amazing discovery on my quest to only use, buy from and generally support independents is Little Beau Sheep, a company based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and run by mum of two, Sarah.
I stumbled on her cute sheep related products when my eldest brother Vikash handed me one of her felted soaps as a Christmas present in 2017. Bemusement, intrigue and delight were amongst the reactions I had when I got this sweet gift.
“It was a lanolin enriched soap bar, warpped in 100% wool and said to be naturally exfoliating.”
I brought it with me on a trip to Copenhagen in February whereby I figured it'd be a smart item to travel with too as I don’t have to worry about the whole liquid thing at the airport. I used it in the bath and was quite dubious about the wool annoying my skin, but it’s a lovely, gentle feeling, and the wool felts to the soap splendidly. It’s still quite large, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the felting changes as the soap reduces in size.
Having sneaked a peak at the description on the wesbite, it says: “the wool acts as a soap saver and the soap lathers through it. The wool continues to shrink and felt to the soap with use so the soap last a lot longer than an un-felted bar. All you are left with at the end is a small ball of wool that is completely biodegradable.” (I thought it was still pretty large considering when I first started using it!)
The idea for Little Beau started brewing a little after 2011 and at time of writing has its own website, Etsy shop and looks to be a thriving small business. Good luck to Sarah, and a personal thanks from me to her, as it is as I write this post that an idea of my own has suddenly emerged whilst researching and writing about the Little Beau range. I’m going to start working on it as soon as possible!
In the meantime, I’m excited to see that beautiful, sustainable products are being thought of everyday. It’s so important that we look to use more natural and sustainble products that are biodegrable so that we can become as waste free as possible.
